Toledo Periodontal Therapy
Saving Your Teeth – and Your Life!
During your regular hygiene exam, our hygienist will measure the gum tissue around each tooth to assess any periodontal deterioration. Digital x-rays may also be taken to reveal any bone loss around your teeth. If periodontal disease is diagnosed, a variety of treatments are available to treat the disease, and even reverse it.
Risks
We have long known that the bacteria associated with periodontal disease can lead to tooth loss. But recent studies have linked this disease to even greater health risks, including an increased risk of:
- Heart Disease
- Stroke
- Certain cancers, including pancreatic cancer
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Complications controlling blood sugar levels in diabetes
- Low birth weight babies
- Premature birth
Treatment
A variety of new technologies make the treatment of periodontal disease more thorough and comfortable than ever before.
High-Tech Soft Tissue Lasers
We use the ZAP! Laser to gently remove any damaged or diseased gum tissue and kill any bacteria below the gum line.
Sonicare
Sonicare's patented sonic technology is powerfully effective, yet gentle, generating high amplitude and high frequency bristle motion. This motion creates a dynamic cleaning action that drives fluid forces deep between the teeth and along the gum line.
Antibiotic Treatment
Powerful antibiotics (Arestin and Atridox) created just for periodontal bacteria can be placed under the gum line to kill bacteria over time.
The good news is that periodontal disease is treatable, even at an advanced stage, to help you keep your teeth and improve your health.
